Families: 350 + 100 use this well
Chief Atamva: “Since the creation there has been no water here. My parents and grandparents came here in 1918. The Likhubula River is 3 km away. It is our only option for water. We faced the challenges of diarrhea, cholera, skin rashes. Every year we lose people to cholera. My village is excited to have water nearby. I am so happy to have water. Water is the beginning of life. Water is everything. Without water we can do nothing. Our children will be able to go to school.”
Water Committee Chair: Laston Katason: “On behalf of all the water wells in our area, since the creation of the world we drank dirty water with the pigs and cows. WWFA has taken us out of that.”
PEA: Yolamu Black Honde: “We are very happy to have water. Learners (students) were drinking water from the river.” PEA= Primary Education Advisor
Such a beautiful celebration for our 500th water well. We drove past Chileka airport through the Blantyre district to Chikwawa, through beautiful hills to Aseke Atamva Village. The reception was staggering with hundreds, Gule Wamkuth. So we planned to leave the 30 year and 500 bore hole party so we could pack up and leave early on Tuesday. We had time to do last minute shopping for meat, cheese, eggs and such. We ate dinner at the food court. Fexton called and the lorry broke down.
