Challenges Before the Water Well

  • Inadequate Water Supply:
Before this well, the school relied on a low-yielding water point located 300 meters away. This point didn’t produce enough water, and because it was also used by the community, students struggled to access water, impacting their school day.
  • Delays in School Activities:
Students had to fetch water in the mornings to clean the classrooms, which caused delays in starting lessons. As a result, many students, especially girls, would be late to school because of the long wait at the water point.
  • Hygiene Issues for Girls:
The lack of easily accessible water made it particularly challenging for girls during menstruation. They had to leave school to go home to clean themselves, causing them to miss important classes.
  • Long Walks and Waiting in Line:
Even during breaks, students had to walk a long distance to fetch water and often had to wait in line, further delaying their return to class and affecting their academic performance.

Impact of the New Water Well

  • Improved Water Access:
With the new well, students can now easily access water without leaving school. They can replenish the water buckets, allowing them to clean the classrooms on time and start lessons without delays.
  • Support for Girls’ Hygiene Needs:
Girls can now get water nearby and clean themselves during their menstrual periods, without missing class time. This has had a significant impact on their ability to stay in school and continue their education without interruptions.
  • Community Benefit:
In addition to serving the school, the well also benefits over 50 households in the surrounding area. The well has reduced the burden on the previous low-yielding water point, making life easier for the families.

Once again, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to the Brian and Joelle Kelly Family Foundation for their generous donation of this water well, which is already improving the lives of the students and the broader community.
