Before the well arrived, the village and school faced significant challenges. The community struggled with cholera and diarrhea due to the lack of clean water, and the village had been without reliable water for many years. The school, located in a very remote area, had low attendance, and many students would leave to fetch water, often not returning to class.
The well has changed everything. Since its arrival, attendance at the school has increased by more than 50 students, and the staff is hopeful that the clean water will help raise test scores and keep attendance up. Cholera has significantly decreased, and the staff is optimistic about the future. The school is even breaking ground on a new block, which will add two new classrooms to accommodate the growing number of students.
The village has also experienced a major transformation. Cholera is now “palibe” — gone. With clean water from the well, they can grow crops, clean their homes, and care for their children without fear of illness. The community’s health and happiness have greatly improved, and the children now say that family life is much happier than before. The well has truly changed their lives.
