Stories / Quotes:
Families: 38
Water committee: 4 men and 6 women
For years, the village relied on a dirty stream for water, which would dry up during the hot season. It had been a decade since they had a reliable water source. The nearest borehole was 11 kilometers away, forcing families to travel long distances, often to the clinic, as diarrhea, cholera, and other waterborne diseases ran rampant.
Since the well came, life has drastically improved. The village now spends its free time gardening, with plans to dedicate part of the garden to raise funds for well maintenance. Families are happier, healthier, and cleaner, and school attendance has doubled, as more children are able to attend regularly. The village is even molding bricks to build a school, marking a new chapter for their future.
Fidelia, a 20-year-old girl, shared her experience: “I lost babies due to diarrhea because the hospital was too far away. Now, I go to Chanco College to become a nurse.”
Another young girl, just 14 years old, has big dreams: “I want to be a teacher.”
The well has not only brought clean water but also opened doors to education, health, and a future full of possibilities.
