Stories / Quotes:
Families: 30
Water committee: 5 men and 5 women
For 30 long years, the village had struggled without reliable access to water. Their only option was to fetch water from holes in the river, and during the hot months, the river would dry up completely. The mornings were consumed with searching for, digging, and carrying water, leaving little time for anything else.
But since the well arrived, life has changed dramatically. Cholera and diarrhea, which once ran rampant, are now nearly gone. Before the well, disease was a constant threat, but many couldn’t even make the long journey to the clinic, which was more than 9 miles away. Now, the village is healthier, cleaner, and the people are spending their newfound free time working on their farms and gardens.
The impact has been far-reaching. Families are happier, and children are able to attend school more regularly than ever before. The well has brought so much hope that the village is even planning to build new homes, with a brighter future ahead.
Tamaria, the Chief’s mother, reflects on the change: “I would go before sunrise to get water and not return until around 10. Now, our kids get up, fetch water, take a bath, and head off to school. Our village has more crops and a greater variety of them because of the well.”
