Families: 25
Water committee: 4 men and 6 women
Song: “When the news came that we would have a borehole, we couldn’t tell anyone because we had been lied to too much.”
Rhoda Enepher: We used to get dirty water from the Mua River. It took 3 hours to get one bucket of water. We would fight each other but now we are friends. We would fight other villages. Robin village was near the river and would try to stop us. “
Families are united.
In 2004, the Government of Malawi opened Mangochi and Machinga to home steading- “Kudzigulira Malo”
This Lomwe group came from Mulanje in November 2007. This is the first water here since then.
“Water is life. Even though school was free, our kids still couldn’t go. Now, their academic performance has improved due to the water. Even if we had a new school, our children could NOT go without water.
Everyone is healthy.
We all have gardens.
No cholera, No diarrhea.
We don’t go to the clinic anymore. We would go weekly. When one child was sick, they would all get sick. It costs MK5000 to travel by motor bike taxi. The government hospital lacked medicine, so we would pay MK 15,000 for treatment from private hospital.
With the extra money we save, we have bought goats and chickens. We also pay school fees.”
