Challenges Before the Water Well
- Distance to Water Source:
Before the new well, students had to walk 500 meters to the nearest water source, which created several challenges. - Disruptions to Classes:
When students needed water or wished to wash their hands after using the toilet, they had to leave the classroom and make the long trek to the distant water well. This caused them to miss valuable lessons and impacted their academic performance. - Hygiene Challenges:
Hygiene was also an issue because students were unable to easily clean their classrooms or wash their hands, affecting overall sanitation at the school.
Impact of the New Water Well
- Convenient Water Access for Students:
With the new water well on-site, students no longer have to leave classes to fetch water. They can now easily access water right on the school grounds, keeping them in class and improving their academic performance. - Improved Hygiene:
Having a nearby water source has made it much easier for students to maintain proper hygiene, as they can now wash their hands and clean their classrooms with ease. - Benefit to Teachers and the Community:
At least 15 households, including 7 teachers’ families, now benefit from the water well. The water is also being used for building projects at the school, including the construction of toilets and two new classroom blocks, which was a significant challenge before the water well. - Increased Efficiency:
The presence of water has brought much-needed efficiency to both the school operations and the lives of the community members.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to the Brian and Joelle Kelly Family Foundation for making this possible. This water well has brought relief and improved efficiency to both the school and the community, and we are incredibly thankful for your generosity.
