Stories / Quotes:
Chief Enoch Chadeda: “We are so happy to have a water well. It’s helping us. Our grandparents came here in 1965 and we never had clean water. We had been sick but now we have clean water so we are no longer sick”
All the women stated that they went with the family to the clinic more than 2-5 times a month. The cost was MK 3000 each for a motorbike taxi. The clinic was 12.5 km away. Money was scarce, so they would walk. The men are using their money to buy fertilizer. “We have a better harvest than before.”
From the Chief Chadeda: “We can come at any time to get water. We have time to farm. We have money to buy malaria if we need it. We do team farming and use the money to send our kids to school.”
Mercy reported: “Before the borehole was installed, 30% of girls would go to school, but they suffered from diarrhea and would miss school. It takes 2-3 weeks to recover from diarrhea. Now, 80% of the girls go to school.”
Village Women: “We get 7-8 buckets of water a day. Our Nsima is clean. We can wash twice a day. We used to wash in the river. The Nsima was red from the water. Now our Nsima is white and tastes better.”
