Stories / Quotes:
Families: 70-80
Water committee: 5 men and 5 women
Before the well, the women would wake up at 3 am to search for and carry water, often embarking on a 3 to 4-hour journey one way. Women and children were responsible for this exhausting task, meaning the children could not attend school. Diarrhea, dysentery, and cholera were constant problems in Namiwa, with many people visiting the clinic weekly, which was another 3 to 4-hour walk. Tragically, the community lost around 13 people to waterborne illnesses.
Now, everything is different. With reliable access to clean water, the community has found new freedom. In their free time, they are spending more time with their families and gardening, with many seizing the opportunity to market the goods they are making. School attendance has soared, with “VERY MANY” children now attending regularly. Not only that, but the children’s grades have improved. Their dreams are bigger than ever, with aspirations to become doctors, nurses, bank managers, pilots, and policemen. The well has not only transformed their daily lives but also opened up a brighter future for the next generation.
