Water committee: 2 men and 8 women
Women in this community are proud and filled with joy as they take on leadership roles on the water committee, a position of great significance for them.
Before the well, they relied on rivers and distant dams for water, sources that were not only dirty but also far away, requiring a grueling two-hour walk one way. There was another well, but it was so far that it often led to conflicts over access. Cholera and diarrhea plagued the community, and tragically, five people lost their lives to waterborne diseases. Frequent trips to the clinic were necessary, but it was a long, exhausting journey.
Now, everything has changed. With the installation of the well, cholera, diarrhea, and other waterborne diseases are a thing of the past. In their free time, the women work at home, and the money they used to spend on medical visits is now being invested in trading, building homes, and feeding their families. All of this was once impossible, but the gift of clean water has transformed their lives.
The well has also had a profound impact on the children. They can now get to school on time and stay in class, leading to a significant increase in school attendance and better grades. What once seemed like an impossible dream—education and a healthy, prosperous life—has now become a reality for this community, all thanks to the life-changing well.
