Stories / Quotes:

Families: 50

Chief: James Akidu (elected chief in 2009. Age 76) His mother, Margaret, came here as a child: “This is the first borehole in this area. I am so happy for this borehole. There are so many kids that go to school on time. In two months, there has been no water borne diseases.”

Elizabeth Akidu: “We have peace of mind. We were a neglected area without water. We don’t have any trouble accessing safe water now. Previously in the dry season we had to travel so far for water. There were many snakes and hyenas.”

All the women contributed: “Now we can do laundry and household chores. We can sleep in in the morning and let the sun rise. We can bathe three times a day. This is the first time in memory that we have not gone to the clinic health center. Now we only go for malaria. We have peace. Peace.”

Rafael James: “We have lived a lifetime without water. We had many promises over the years. All the men worked for two weeks on the road to make it possible. It was used only for bikes. I will mold 7,500 bricks.

Enless: “I can get 7-10 buckets a day. I can come anytime with two buckets.”

Esmart: “I can get 8 buckets.”

Edward: “We have hope for the future because our kids can go to schools. I’ve lived here 15 years, and this is our first clean water.”
