Stories/Quotes
Families: 52
Water Committee: 6 women, 4 men
The village has posted a cleaning schedule on a tree. Between these 10 members they have 50 kids.
Agnes Musa: secretary: “This is our first water ever. Our lives have changed in so many ways. It would take five hours to get one bucket a day. Now I can get 10 buckets in one hour. I do dishes, give water to livestock, cook. Food is better tasting and we can eat more and on time. Just look at us. We have time for families and chores. It was hard for children to go to school. Now the kids can bathe and get to school on time. Each month, every family would be sick four times. The cost of transportation is high and time consuming. Now that we are saving money, we can afford to pay school fees.”
Charles Londe: chair: “We had a hand dug well that we used. It would dry up in July. I have 7 children. Before the borehole I had to choose which children, I could afford to send to school. Now I can send all of them to school. I am able to pay their school fee. The school is happy. We have hope that our children will have a better future.”
I questioned the entire water committee about the increase in school attendance. Everyone agreed joyfully that with the money saved by eliminating waterborne sickness all their kids go to school.
