In Mwambaza/Nikisi, the well has brought a sense of support the community has never felt before. “How can we be alone when we have other people supporting us?” they said, watching clean water flow for the first time in their history.
To make this dream possible, the entire village came together—working four full days to build a road, hauling sand and stone by hand so the drilling team could reach them. Until now, families drew water from the Njalanjome River, sharing it with goats, pigs, cows, snakes, and other wild animals. In the dry season, they waited in long lines at the riverbed; in the rainy season, the swollen river cut off parts of the village entirely.
Waterborne disease was constant here. Cholera outbreaks took lives, and families lived in fear of sickness. “We used to get one bucket,” they said. “Now we can get four or five.”
For Mwambaza/Nikisi, this is more than a water well—it is the first clean water the area has ever known, and the beginning of a future filled with health, dignity, and hope.
