Chief Cheuka explained that the first well, installed in 2011, was too far and in mountainous terrain. Families often relied on the river, which dried up in summer.
 “Cholera was a big problem—we lost many people,” he said.

Rose James, age 74, recalled the difficulty of walking long distances for water. Now, she can access safe water close to home.

Twelve-year-old Prisca Thomas shared:
 “I couldn’t go fetch water alone because I was afraid. We would go in groups of three or more.”
 With the new well nearby, Prisca can dream of her future—she hopes to become a teacher.

Ellena Charles added:
 “I feel good that the village has trusted us.”

This well has brought health, safety, and dignity to Cheuka Village.
