Before the borehole, villagers fetched water from the Kaninga River, shared with animals, and faced frequent cholera outbreaks. Families visited the hospital two to three times a week, and transport for the sick was costly and difficult. “Our lives were threatened by snakes at the river,” said Mr. Seveliano.

Women rose at 3 a.m. to walk 2–3 kilometers for water, often facing fights, broken buckets, and domestic conflict. Farms suffered as women spent all day searching for water.

Now, with their first water well, families are healthier, relationships are stronger, and farming has resumed. Students, like Catherine Daniel, attend school on time and can focus on their studies.

This well has restored dignity, opportunity, and a future for Mankhwazi and neighboring villages.
