Chief Kandodo described this borehole as the first clean water source “since creation.”
“We suffered from Cholera, Bilharzia, and Diarrhea. Three people died from Cholera in 2023.”
The nearest hospital is an hour and a half away, and families made frequent trips—often twice a week—due to waterborne illnesses. Before the borehole, villagers relied on a shallow pit near the Chimbiya River. The closest functioning borehole was also an hour and a half away, allowing families only two buckets of water per day.
Bitrina Bobo shared:
“If we went to the garden first, we’d eat late because of the long walk to the water point. We would go days without bathing.”
Samson Binosi described a heartbreaking reality:
“Many girls dropped out of school because they were raped and impregnated by evil men. Now our women will be protected. And our hope is that waterborne diseases will be eliminated for good.”
Today, children are no longer afraid to fetch water, and families report restored peace—men no longer feel suspicious or jealous of their wives spending long hours at distant water points.
This well has brought safety, health, and renewed hope to Kandodo and its neighboring villages.
