Chairlady Chimwemwe Rabson shared her gratitude for being trusted to lead the water committee:
“I received the news of my appointment well. I’m very happy the village trusted me.”
Before the borehole, villagers walked 4 kilometers to Lifidzi River, facing monkeys, snakes, and drinking contaminated water. Cholera was common, and the hospital—7 kilometers away—was often unreachable.
With safe water nearby, women can bathe regularly, housework is easier, and families have time for vegetable gardens and construction projects. Twelve-year-old Tapiwa Davite said, “Sometimes I went to school without bathing—just wiped myself. Now I bathe three times a day.”
Kalonga Village now celebrates its first safe water source, bringing health, safety, and opportunity to the community.
