Families: 36
Water Committee: 2 men and 8 women
Most residents of Chamba 3 Village have lived here their entire lives, but until recently, they had never had access to clean water. During the rainy season, villagers would walk three kilometers to reach the river, and in the dry season, they dug into the riverbed just to collect enough water for their families. Trips to the clinic, 15 kilometers away, were frequent whenever waterborne illness struck.
Since the installation of the first borehole just three months ago, the community has seen a dramatic improvement in health. “In three months, we have had no diarrhea or cholera—palibe!” villagers proudly report. Children are now able to attend school on time, with girls especially benefiting from the convenience of safe, nearby water.
The well has also brought new opportunities for work and household productivity. Families now spend more time tending gardens along the rivers, growing and selling corn and leafy greens. With more water available—sometimes up to ten buckets a day—residents are drinking more, bathing regularly, and maintaining better hygiene. Food tastes better, household chores are easier, and family harmony has returned, with domestic conflicts now a thing of the past.
This first source of clean water has already transformed Chamba 3 Village. The community feels healthier, more productive, and hopeful for a brighter future.
