Before the borehole, families in Chalamanda drank water alongside animals—cows, goats, dogs, even snakes. Sickness was constant, and every family visited the clinic twice a week, costing MK 12,000 each time. Sometimes they could collect only half a bucket of water a day.
Since the well was installed, life has completely transformed. Waterborne illness is gone, children attend school regularly, and families enjoy peace and better hygiene. “We take three baths a day now,” shared villagers.
The community has also gained economic opportunities. They are growing gardens of mustard, tomatoes, onions, and corn for food and to sell, purchasing essentials like salt from their earnings. Families are molding bricks and building a stronger future.
