Breaking Barriers for Girls at Kanungu School through the Blossom Project

Something remarkable happened at Kanungu Primary School — and it’s already changing the future for hundreds of students.

Water Wells for Africa (WWFA) has officially completed the Blossom Project at Kanungu, bringing brand-new hygiene and sanitation facilities to a school that was once severely underserved. For years, girls at Kanungu had no private space to manage their menstrual hygiene. With only four toilets – none with doors – and no changing rooms, many were forced to stay home during their periods, falling behind or dropping out altogether.

Thanks to the support of WWFA donors, that reality has changed. The school now has safe, private hygiene rooms, improved toilet facilities, and continued access to clean water. Enrollment has grown to 798 students (more than a 25% increase since 2020!), dropout rates have fallen, and the school now ranks among the top in its district with a 94 percent pass rate.

This is more than a construction project – it’s a restoration of dignity, health, and opportunity for girls who once felt left behind.
